Help someone a day, and you will be happier and happier all the way ^^

Handmade Movement is operated as a non-profit initiative. They are non-profit because they believe that crafting should be about more than just making money (although money is still an important consideration in supporting small indie businesses). Above all, crafting is about passion, love and community.
Like most things however, putting Handmade Movement together requires a rather hefty sum of money which the organizers (Aisah and Michelle) do not have on their own. Handmade Movement is currently 30% funded by Noise Singapore, but still have a way to go before they are able to comfortably cover all costs and have enough to roll over to fund the next fair after 19 January 2013.
This is a community project, and so you, our community, is needed, to help to make this a reality, the way it should be.
I am really very touched by the amount of time and effort the organizers are putting in to make this possible. This is a very very meaningful event to all the craft lovers in Singapore! I hope if you can, if you love craft, if you support us and like what we do, please help a little :) Because it is the support of you makes us feel more worthwhile to continue what we like to do!

Your help is greatly appreciated! Have a nice day ^^

December

December is my school holiday.. my original plan was to finish making all the items which friends have ordered from me.. but but but.. I didn't expect to travel so much >.< as a result.. I.. did not really make anything up to now :(.. another main reason is that I do not have a sewing machine with me.. so I have been trying to learn some knitting from my mum and grandma.. and Gosh!!! Knitting is so much more difficult than sewing (to me).. I cannot understand it >.< but I will still try to learn..

This is what I have been trying to do.. if you have a lot of time and you dunno what to do.. learning knitting! This would take me 3 days to make -.- and I've also made a lot of knitted hearts as free gifts for the Handmade Movement Singapore at my booth.. heehee ^^

If you are interested to learn how to make this cup cozy.. I found the pattern for this at
http://www.simplynotable.com/2011/pick-a-pocket-cozies/
I personally did not follow the pattern (because I dunno how to read knitting patterns -.-) so I just show my mum the design and she automatically knows how to make it.. anyway this is a brilliant design for a tea person like me.. the small pocket is really useful. I always bring a Starbucks tumbler with me to class and my small tea bag always got lost in my huge backpack.. now they can stay happily tgt :) and I no longer need to dig for 15min in my bag trying to find my tea bag >.<

Christmas 2012

Christmas feels much more like Christmas during winter.. this might sound weird to some people because Christmas is always during winter to them. But there's no winter in Singapore so this is the first time I'm spending my Christmas in a very cold place for at least the past 7-10 years.. with all the thick winter wear, gloves, scarf, "smoke" coming out from every breath u make.. haha.. I'm really very excited!!

Handmade Movement - The Inaugural Craft Fair

I don't understand why I haven't been saying anything about this, coz it's one of the most important thing in my life right now. This is the first time something like this (an indie craft fair!) happening in Singapore. It's a very good start and it's going to be awesome!!!!!

As all my handmade stuff so far are for friends and upon ordering.. I do not have any in-stock to sell at the craft fair.. I am a little bit nervous but also very excited and inspired to work something out. I hope I will be able to make some nice things for the fair :)

Food. Music. Craft. Workshops. Live Art. Fun.

12PM - 6PM
FORT CANNING GREEN

Hope to see you there :)

Wuyuan Day 2 & 3

There was no sun these 2 days, but thank God there was no rain either :) This is Likeng. It's a small village where most villagers living here have the surname Li. The building design was from Ming/Qing dynasty. The buildings look really old but on our way back some people told us it's built such a way to mimic the old buildings and they are not really that old. I was a bit disappointed after hearing that.. but I'm not sure if his words are true.. nevertheless it's an interesting place.

I was standing on a small hill and trying to imagine what life was like back in Qing dynasty..

I thought this look like a giant cookie.. but it's very crispy and salty!

This dog, stood in the middle of the bridge the whole time, was actually waiting for the return of its owner. We know coz we saw her coming back and it was super happy.. aww :)

晴天娃娃 Teru teru bōzu, which brings good weather and keep the rain away :)
Finally.. on the way to mountain top to see snow.. but in the end I gave up.. simply because it was toooooooo cold >.< and it was too foggy to see anything. But this was the first time I see snow in the past 10 or so years. Despite the cold weather I was still quite excited but still the excitement can't beat the cold.. haha.

Wuyuan China

Reporting from China! My dad has to go Fu Jian for his work stuff so he decided to drop me at some countryside along the way to let me explore the beauty of nature. Lol. Of course he did not just threw me at some random rural place, but he actually went to research and found out this place called Wuyuan is a very famous tourist site and it's on the way so.. yea.. I'm still at Wuyuan now and indeed this is a lovely place! Just that the time of visit is not so ideal. The best time to visit during the year is probably April to May, the harvesting season or actually 2 weeks ago (late November), where the maple trees were at full blossom and you get to see their signature autumn scene. Well, for now it's quite awkward, the weather is getting very cold and the maple leaves have all fallen, leaving just bare branched behind, they look so naked and cold. Nevertheless it's a very beautiful place, at least it's real nature (compared to Gardens by The Bay -.-). It feels really very different from city, the way the villagers live, eat, communicate, all so different. It's good to visit place like this once in a while especially for me.. after exams.. so even though it's not the right timing, I am enjoying myself :)

Weather is quite nice today. They said it's the best place to see sunrise or sunset but I missed both. I wasn't early enough for the sunrise and I can't stay late enough to catch the sunset, or else there will be no transport back to my hotel :/

Picking up some fan-shape leaves.
Naked. Sigh..
The only tree I found to still exhibit bits of autumn.
Found this right next to a small path. I almost stepped on it OMG :O

Holiday!

Paris Baguette at Wisma.. a very nice place to chill.. good food good coffee ^^

Retarded strawberry is retarded.

Cute packaging! They are very thoughtful too, when you ask to take away they will package in some silver packet with ice pad like Royce chocolate and it can last for 4 hours.

Finally, went to the studio after my exams and we had some special guests today ^^ 3 baby poooooodles!

End Of Semester.. Officially

With the end of my exam on Survey of Modern Art, I have officially completed yet another semester in university. It was a good conclusion, the paper was rather fun to do.

Throughout the whole semester we learned about various artists all the way from post-impressionism to surrealism. Learned about their life, their society, their struggle and of course how they translated everything into their works. It's a very enriching course and after knowing so much about the artists, they now feel like some good old friends to us. So when doing the paper it's really like writing things you know about your good friends, you can write a lot and it's really fun to write ^^

Still remember before the start of this semester right after the course registration, I was complaining how school's policy in making history modules compulsory are actually forcing us all to become art historians and I found it quite meaningless. But after all the knowledge gained, I would say I have no regrets in taking the history mods. From 2 years of studies on Studies of Visual Arts, 1 year of Western Art History, 1 year of Asian Art History and Half a year of History of Photography and History of Modern Art.. I really learn a lot about everything. About the human history in general, about life, about human being and about myself. You start to understand how certain things develop and become what it is today. You start to find it more meaningful to observe the world around you. You start to cherish what you have. You start to love life even more. Well.. at least that's how I feel. Gaining knowledge is a very wonderful thing, because you know whatever you have physically can be taken away from you easily, even your looks. But the knowledge you have will always be with you. Therefore, read more, see more and understand more. It will make you feel a lot more confident about yourself than wearing a good make up. Now the holidays just started for me, I am already looking forward to the next semester :)

Meanwhile, someone is still having exam. I wish you all the best. Thank you for always staying by my side and allowing me to share my joy, fear, worry, nonsense, whatever things with you. you are the best :) JIA YOU!!!!!!

These Days...

I always believe that a good day starts from a good breakfast, even though sometimes I have my breakfast at 12.30pm :/

It's exam period and my life is really very very very boring right now :(
I can't wait for the holidays to come. I have 101 things on my list that I want to do and accomplish.. I wish I would start right away.. but not until 4 Dec >.<

Despite that, I brought the kids in the art studio to a day trip to Gardens By The Bay! OMG.. it's a huge land of engineered nature. I can't help but to think the whole thing is really really pretentious.. you get fake waterfall, fake tropical climate, controlled 'natural temperature', and the best part, chirping of birds coming from huge speakers installed on the trees! Hahahahaa.. but again, it's a very special experience. I am sure you can't experience 'nature' like this anywhere else in the world. Sometimes when walking through the gardens I really felt like I'm in the movie set of Avatar.. but the kids love it.. they were very excited and some really sat down in front of a plant and observe and make a rather detail sketch out of it.. I think that's all it matters :)

Thank God for the good weather. Sky not very blue but at least the rain stopped just in time :)

This is not a photoshop effect, the leaves are white in color. I saw these plants in LA before and I always wonder how they carry out photosynthesis. Do they even have chlorophyll?? O.o

Serious serious serious..

Nature is a huge source of inspiration for the artists. If you have the chance, should really go away and experience the true nature.

Strange plant, only 1 flower hanging on the many branches.

So we ended off the day with dinner at Texas Chicken :)

and.. it's time to get back to notes and textbooks... -.-.. zzzzzzzzz
