A Beautiful Sky Day

I'm sure McDonald's just wants us to get fatter and fatter.. this is like all the awesomeness and sinfulness in one plate.. sigh.. and I caved in :/

So I spent the beautiful day studying for my exams at the engineering block in my school, yes, the engineering block. How depressing that sounds >.<

Anyway.. I think God heard my complains about how boring the sky is in Singapore and yesterday's sky was super nice. Beautiful tones of blue with cute fluffy clouds, I thought it would rain but it didn't! It also ended off with a beautiful sunset and I saw many friends posting pictures of it. So lovely, everyone was appreciating this good day, good weather :) I was studying inside the classroom and how I wished I could carry my table out to study but again it was too hot outside.. lol.

Thoughts

Just some thoughts I have after studying for 4 chapters of history of photography.

The development of photography is probably a push of the culture, and every improvement we get is an answer to what we want.

Photography is a gift of God. It is purposely made accessible so that we can have a piece of moment frozen solely in our vision. We have the absolute power to preserve what we see as valuable. Every moment in life is precious, so snap away :)

Before and After

This is my room right before and right after my submission.. now everything is in the prof's office.. lol

Meanwhile..

Tuesday I went out for printing for my submission on Wednesday and I have to wait 8 HOURS for my things to be ready!!! So I went shopping for the first time since the sem started.. There are so many nice things that I want to buy but 1) I know printing will cost me a bomb so I can't afford to. 2) I have to carry all the way back to school together with all my printed things and A2 poster and laptop and... so no.. but I still manage to sweep some things back hall.. haha.

This was bought in school Starbucks. New season Christmas mug :)

Lovely colors.

Can't be too greedy just buy things for myself, so I prepared some early Christmas presents for my bf too.

Something useful and it's Tintin!

Alright.. no more excuses not to study anymore.. all the submissions are over.. time for papers.. :(

End Of Sem? ... Not Yet -.-

So it's the end of sem show today, but it's not the end of sem yet. I still have 4 papers to go and totally do not feel like touching any notes or studying anything. I feel really exhausted. For the past one month I worked like a factory, doing all the designing, editing, printing, cutting, sewing, sticking, binding... ... sometimes I wonder why do we have to do all these because eventually when you are out in the industry as a designer, a lot of processes mentioned above you can simply outsource to some pro machines.. but again maybe you need to hands on yourself so you will know what to expect.. nevertheless I think it's the handmade part that I love the most.

Our project requires us to do a collaboration between a company and a fine artist and design a new range of products/services from the collaboration. My artist is Emily Barletta, I really love her series of works on Thread on Paper. The natural form and the organic composition really make each piece unique and full of energy. My main visual is inspired by one of her works which to me suggests 'links' and this extended to form the whole concept of a modern Chinese wedding as red thread is a symbol of love/marriage in the Chinese traditions.

Brand concept and meaning of logo.

Final products.

100% handmade. Many people told me the die cut part can just use the die cut machine or laser cut machine in school.. yea I know.. but I was just too lazy to travel to school just for that. lol.

Overall it's a very valuable experience. Learned a lot about the process of design, from the conceiving of ideas/concepts to application to the final execution, it's quite exciting to see one thing lead to another and how ideas transform into something tangible. looking forward to do more works like this.

Random Trip to Town

Dropped by Clarke Quay today.. so might as well snap some photos since the weather was not bad. Clarke Quay is a charming place at night.. with all the lights and bars and music and people.. but during the day.. zzz.. well.. Singapore on the whole is considered a night city I guess. The cityscape at night is really stunning and the weather also much cooler at night so you can just hang out at some outdoor cafe and chill all you want.

One thing I can never understand is that why does the sky in Singapore can never be as blue as the sky in California?????? Is it the presence of the clouds??? But even it's not a cloudy day the sky isn't as blue. I have studied astronomy for one whole semester and I can't figure out why. Maybe it's not even an astro thing, but oh well.

Randomly picked a photo from the album San Diego 2012, no filter, no edit.. I miss the sky.. the sun.. the warmth (in Singapore it's just HOT not warm). I can never edit this type of photo.. because I would think that any form of editing will only make the sky less nice than its original.. of coz visually you can enhance the photo until it's 100x nicer than this.. but it's a psychological thing I guess.. I'm just not confident to make this natural beauty even more beautiful.. I mean it's already so beautiful isn't it >.<

Miyoko Ihara "Misao the Big Mama and Fukumaru the Cat"

This is all too precious and very well captured <3

"Under the sun, everyday is a good day. Another good day, Fukumaru"

I am so in loved with all these images, other than the word 'precious' I don't know how else to describe this.

This is a short write up about the photo book and I'm so tempted to purchase it!

"Under the sun, everyday is a good day. Another good day, Fukumaru"

12 years ago, Miyoko Ihara has started to take photographs of her grandmother, Misao. Miyoko wanted to leave a living proof of her.
One day, her grandmother found a odd-eyed kitten in the shed.

She named the cat "Fukumaru" in hope that "God of fuku(good fortune) comes and everything will be smoothed over like maru(circle)".
Even thought she is 87 years old, she still go out into the fields everyday, and Fukumaru always accompany her.
Green fields, blooming flowers and plump fruits ... in the colorful, diverse landscape, the life of an old lady and a cat is captured in the photographs.
It has been 8 years since they first met.
The grandmother whose hearing become weak and Fukumaru who has hearing disabilities are always looking into each other's eyes and feeling warmth each other.
When the white cloud float across the blue sky, the grandmother and her cat go out in the filed today too.

This photobook is full of preciousness and beauty of the daily life.
